The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) held an advocacy meeting with Abdul Bari Omar, CEO of De Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS).

The meeting was held to address the challenges faced by media outlets regarding access to affordable electricity and the payment of previous electricity bills owed by local media.

Jamil Weqar, AJSC deputy director, in addition to discussing the need for facilitating better conditions to enable continuance of media work in the country, said that media outlets are facing financial difficulties and cannot afford the high electricity costs. He urged the head of DABS to change the electricity tariff for media outlets from commercial to residential so that they can operate more effectively.

Abdul Bari Omar, DABS CEO, while emphasizing the important role of the media in providing information, said that a fundamental and practical solution should be sought to address this issue.

AJSC has been consistently working to address challenges facing the work of journalists and facilitate a safe environment for them.
