The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee’s (AJSC) coordinator for the northern zone in Balkh and provincial focal points in Saripul, Samangan, Baghlan and Faryab raised the challenges and concerns of journalists and local media outlets during consultative meetings with the Deputy Minister of Publications of the Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC) and his accompanying delegation, calling for these challenges to be addressed.
During the meetings, AJSC representatives highlighted several major obstacles facing journalists and media outlets, including the economic challenges of media outlets, lack of funding opportunities, high costs of electricity, difficulties renewing media operating licenses (particularly for outlets whose license holders reside outside the country), access to information, and concerns related to employment contracts for media workers.
AJSC representatives also stressed the need for greater support for media outlets and journalists, improved access to information, and greater attention to the economic challenges facing local media.
Deputy Minister of publications of MoIC, during these meetings, stated that the purpose of his provincial visits was to directly assess and collect the challenges of media outlets and journalists. He added that the issues and recommendations raised during the meetings would be shared with the ministry’s leadership and the government.
AJSC has been consistently working to address challenges facing the work of journalists and facilitate a safe environment for them.
