The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC), to address financial challenges of media houses, organized an advocacy meeting with Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) in Kandahar province.

AJSC’s zone coordinators for western and southern zones of the country and two local media managers representing Herat’s media houses, participated in this meeting.

The meeting was organized to address financial challenges of media houses, especially the high cost of annual frequency licences in a number of provinces, particularly in Herat, Kandahar and Nangarhar provinces. It was emphasized that the IEA should determine the annual cost of frequency licenses like the neighbouring provinces or reduce it.

The IEA spokesperson assured the participants that practical steps will be taken to reduce the annual cost of audio and visual media frequency licenses in the mentioned provinces.

The AJSC has been consistently working to facilitate a safe environment for journalists and better coordination between government and the media.
