The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) organized a meeting in Khost province to facilitate journalists and media outlets’ timely access to credible information.
Mawlawi Hayatullah Mahajer Farahi, deputy minister of publication of the ministry of information and culture (MoIC), Saeed Khosti, legal advisor of the MOIC, Qari Yousof Ahamadi, head of RTA (Radio Television of Afghanistan) Shabir Ahmad Usmani, head of Khost’s directorate of information and culture, Farooq Jan Mangal, AJSC coordinator for the southeast zone, spokespersons of a number of government entities, and managers and journalists of local media outlets of Khost province had participated in this meeting.
Farooq Jan Mangal, AJSC coordinator for the southeast zone, in this meeting discussed relevant concepts on information and importance of journalists’ access to information, adding that lack of access to information leads to spread of misinformation and fake news.
Deputy Minister Farahi, during his speech in this meeting said that the government has strived to facilitate journalists’ access to information and has shared the needed information with them. He further added that the government is planning to establish a support for journalists in need so that they are supported in times of need.
In this meeting, Shabir Ahmad Usmani, head of Khost’s directorate of information and culture, emphasized on facilitating access to information and thanked AJSC for organizing such a meeting.
AJSC has been continuously working to facilitate a safe environment for journalists and media workers across the country.
