AJSC Signs MoU on Improving Media Knowledge and Strengthening Function of Media with Bakhtar University

Understanding the importance of the academic capacity building and professional safety of journalists, and the key role that education plays in strengthening the function of media outlets, the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bakhtar university to work together to enhance areas such as education, research, and capacity building of journalists and students of journalism.


Based on this MoU, Bakhtar University has agreed to provide media workers referred by the AJSC an 80% scholarship on their tuition fees to enroll in the school of journalism in this university, to support media workers and journalists’ dream to continue their higher studies.


Based on the MoU, which was signed to enhance the knowledge and skills of journalists and provide practical learning opportunities for journalism students, both parties committed to cooperate in the following areas: organizing workshops and training programs, facilitating internship opportunities, referring professors and experts for conducting training programs, facilitating referred journalists’ access to the university’s scientific and digital resources, as well as collaboration in other areas.


Abdul Qadeem Wyar, deputy director of the AJSC, at the meeting held to sign this MoU, said that acquiring professional knowledge is a major requirement for media work, adding that the MoU can address the existing gaps in this area.


Furthermore, Mohammad Hanif Farzan, head of faculty of journalism at Bakhtar University, in this meeting, stated that there are many shortcomings in acquiring the required media knowledge, and that signing and implementing the provisions of this MoU is vital to address these issues.


The MoU consists of eight articles and is applicable for one year from the date of signing and can be extended with the written agreement of both parties.


AJSC has been consistently working for the capacity building and enhancing journalists and media workers’ skills in the country.
