The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) shared challenges facing journalists and media houses in the western zone with Mawlawi Khairullah Khairkhwa, minister of information and culture, during a meeting in Herat province.

In addition to sharing journalists’ issues such as access to information, economic hardships and lack of spokespersons and information officers in a number of governmental entities, Shamil Ahmad Mashal, AJSC zone coordinator for the west zone, urged the minister of information and culture to expand the work of the Commission on Media Violations (CMV) to the provincial and zones levels.

Minister of information and culture appreciated the AJSC’s coordination with the media and government officials, and said that he’ll do everything to improve the working situation of the journalists and media workers. Minister Khairkhwa further said that the work of the Joint Media-Government Coordination Committee is among the best tools to address challenges facing journalists and media workers.

The Joint Media-Government Coordination Committee has been established at the recommendation of the AJSC, to address the challenges facing media and journalists and facilitating better coordination between government and the media.

The AJSC has been tirelessly working to facilitate a safe environment for journalists and better coordination between government and the media.
