The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) hosted Hayatullah Mahajer Farahi, deputy minister, and Abdul Haq Hamad, director of media monitoring of the Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC).
In the MoIC officials visit to the AJSC, topics such as government-media coordination, journalists’ safety, media laws situation, IEA’s efforts for addressing challenges facing journalists and the overall challenges facing media work were discussed.
Abdul Qadeem Wyar, AJSC acting director, referring to the recent progress made on some issues regarding journalistic work, said that an impartial media work committed to journalistic principles is one of the needs of the society and can help in good governance.
Hayatullah Mahajer Farahi, deputy publication minister of the MoIC, in this meeting said that the government is trying to address challenges facing journalists, especially the economic problems of the media houses. Deputy minister further added that they are having continuous discussions with relevant authorities to change electricity tariffs of the media houses from commercial to residential.
Malawi Abdulhaq Hammad, director of media monitoring of the MoIC, mentioned this ministry’s good coordination with the media and said that the ministry is a closely working with the media.
The AJSC has been tirelessly working to facilitate a safe environment for journalists and better coordination between government and the media.
