The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) organized a coordination meeting with Aileen Villareal, newly appointed head of United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) field office in Herat, Olivia Nyakarungi, UNAMA regional office’s human rights officer, while a number of local journalists of this province were also present.
In this meeting, challenges facing media houses and journalists in this, especially financial problems, women journalists’ work, and organizing capacity building training programs for journalists were discussed.
Shamil Ahmad Mashal, AJSC’s western zone coordinator, in addition to enumerating the challenges facing journalists, urged this international organization to focus on addressing these issues.
The AJSC has been consistently working to address challenges facing the media and facilitate a safe environment for journalists.
