With deep sorrow and regret, the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) expresses its heartfelt condolences to the country’s media community and to the respected family of Abdul Ghafoor Abid, reporter for RTA Paktia, who was killed as Pakistani forces opened fire on them, while they were reporting in Zazai Maidan district of Khost province.

In this tragic incident, Tawab Arman, another reporter from RTA Paktia, and their driver were also injured.

AJSC’ southeast zone coordinator and its provincial focal point in Paktia have been actively following up on the situation from the earliest moments of the incident, in coordination with local authorities, verifying the details of the incident.

AJSC considers this act a violation of human rights, ethical standards, and international laws, and calls for a comprehensive and transparent investigation by the relevant national and international institutions.

While extending its deepest condolences and solidarity to the family and loved ones of the late Abid, AJSC assures that it will provide necessary medical support to ensure the proper treatment and recovery of the injured.

AJSC urges all journalists and media workers to take precautions and strictly adhere to personal safety protocols when reporting from conflict zones and high-risk areas.
