On the occasion of the International Day for Universal Access to Information, the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) emphasizes the importance of timely access to accurate and reliable information in raising public awareness and strengthening communication between citizens and responsible institutions.
Reliable and timely information is an important tool for preventing the spread of rumors and misinformation. When public information is provided to journalists clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner, it can reduce misunderstanding and uncertainty surrounding important events and issues affecting society. In the current context of Afghanistan, this is particularly important.
Access to information is not only essential for journalists to carry out their professional responsibilities, but also enables citizens to stay informed about issues affecting their lives and communities. Improving access to information can contribute to greater transparency, stronger accountability among responsible institutions, and more effective public communication.
AJSC calls on government institutions and other relevant authorities to facilitate access to public information and ensure that journalists can obtain the information they need accurately and in a timely manner.
AJSC also emphasizes the importance of establishing and strengthening clear and effective mechanisms for providing public information, helping create more effective communication between government institutions, media, and citizens.
28 September is observed as the International Day for Universal Access to Information, designated by the United Nations to highlight the importance of access to information and its role in society.
AJSC remains committed to supporting journalists, addressing challenges affecting media work, and promoting a safe environment in which journalists can carry out their professional responsibilities.
