The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) joins the national and international media support and other organizations in commemorating the International Day for Universal Access to Information.
The right to access information is one of the fundamental rights of citizens. Access to credible and timely information helps reduce or prevent the publication and spread of rumors, misinformation and disinformation, and keeps the society out of ambiguity.
As information plays an important role in the lives of citizens, access to credible and timely information plays a crucial role in building a just society and promotes accountable governance.
AJSC emphasizes on the significance of the citizens’ right to access to information in creating a just, transparent and accountable society, and calls on all stakeholders to strive to facilitate better access to information to citizens.
On this occasion, AJSC calls on government authorities to establish efficient mechanisms for facilitating free flow of information and to enforce the Access to Information Law of Afghanistan.
The International Day for Universal Access to Information was proclaimed on 15 October 2019 at the 74th UN General Assembly.
AJSC has been continuously working to address challenges facing the media and facilitate a safe environment for journalists.
