The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) organized a meeting in Herat province to facilitate journalists and media outlets’ timely access to credible information.
Mawlawi Khairullah Khairkhwa, minister of information and culture, Mawlawi Ahmadullah Muttaqi, head of Herat’s directorate of information and culture, Shamil Ahmad Mashal, AJSC zone coordinator for the western zone, spokespersons of office of the governor, Al Farooq corps, Herat’s municipality and police command, and managers and journalsits of local media outlets, participated in this meeting.
Shamil Ahmad Mashal, AJSC zone coordinator for the western zone, in this meeting emphasized on the need for access to information and urged the government to facilitate better access to information.
Mawlawi Khairullah Khairkhwa, minister of information and culture, during his speech in this meeting said that effective actions have been taken to facilitated journalists’ access to information, adding that efforts will be made so that is further improved in the future so that the truth is broadcasted through the media. Minister Khairkhwa also said that an official letter from the AJSC has been received by his office regarding the reduction of media houses’ annual frequency fees and that his office will submit this letter to the office of the prime minister, so that practical steps are taken in this regard.
In this meeting, Mawlawi Ahmadullah Muttaqi, head of Herat’s directorate of information, said that the local administration in Herat province has endeavoured so that journalists can access information easily and the necessary information is provided to them.
AJSC has been continuously working to facilitate a safe environment for journalists and media workers across the country.
