About AJSC:


Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) is an independent, nonprofit organization that supports press freedom in Afghanistan and works towards the advancement of journalist safety and rights so that they can report in a safe and fearless environment. AJSC is based in Kabul and maintains a presence in every province of Afghanistan. AJSC’s executive section has official representatives in eight regions of the country and an unofficial focal point in the remaining 26 provinces. This has enabled AJSC to establish representation throughout the country and provide media workers with necessary help when needed. AJSC provides a host of services for journalists, advocates for press freedom and offers emergency assistance for journalists in need. Monitoring, verifying, documenting and reporting threats and violence against journalists is also a key mandate of AJSC. A holistic approach to enhancing press freedom and safety of journalists has been key to AJSC success.


Overall Purpose:


The Provincial Focal Point will be responsible for developing and maintaining a detailed database of media workers and organizations, conducting follow-ups on cases of violence, facilitating training and logistical arrangements, and supporting various AJSC initiatives and activities at the provincial level.


The Provincial Focal Point reports directly to Zone Coordinator.


 


Key Responsibilities:



  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of media workers and organizations at the provincial level.

  • Conduct timely follow-ups on cases of violence against media workers and media outlets in the province.

  • Regularly update and manage the communication network with active journalists and media houses in the region.

  • Assist in collecting requested data and facilitating training, surveys, and counseling sessions for media workers.

  • Organize logistical arrangements, including venues for workshops, seminars, and meetings conducted by the main office.

  • Hold regular meetings with relevant government officials and media owners to address issues affecting media workers and organizations in the province.

  • Meet regularly with active media workers to gather feedback and concerns regarding their safety and media activities.

  • Attend annual meetings, workshops, and seminars organized by the main office for capacity building and information sharing.

  • Monitor all process activities during program/project implementation regularly.

  • Provide detailed progress reports to the management team and stakeholders regarding ongoing project activities at the provincial level.

  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports based on monitoring records and progress updates.

  • Conduct a final provincial evaluation of projects to ensure objectives are met.


 


Additional Responsibilities:



  • Assist in drafting reports and other administrative tasks that may arise under tight deadlines.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor in line with AJSC regulations and objectives.


Qualifications and Experience:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Law, Literature, or a related field from a reputable institution.

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.

  • Strong planning, organization, leadership, and project monitoring skills.

  • Fluency in Dari and Pashto.

  • Proficiency in computer applications.

  • Experience in supervising teams in various locations.

  • Background in remote management.

  • Self-motivated while being a collaborative team player.

  • Capacity to work under pressure and manage stress levels effectively.
