The annual coordination meeting of the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) which was held for two days (11-12 November) in Kabul, ended today.
The meeting, attended by AJSC’s central and provincial officials and staff members, was held to assess AJSC’s activities in the past year, discuss plans for the next year, evaluate challenges facing media activity and the overall media work situation.
Abdul Qadim Wyar, deputy and acting director of the AJSC, referring to AJSC’s efforts in addressing challenges facing journalists said that AJSC has been able to address various challenges facing journalists to a great extent. He further added that in the coming year AJSC plans to increase the number of support initiatives for journalists and media outlets.
In this event, AJSC’s zone coordinators discussed their achievements and challenges facing their work during the past year and presented their recommendations and future plans.
During this event, zone coordinators for western and south-eastern zones, provincial focal points for Laghman and Zabul, and gender coordinators for Daikundi and Badakhshan provinces were celebrated and recognized for exceptional work, dedication and commitment towards achieving AJSC’s goals.
AJSC, during the past year, has organized several advocacy meetings with government officials and hundreds of journalists have benefited from its safety measures and consultations, capacity building programs, and financial support.
Furthermore, AJSC has been able to support 40 media houses in 31 provinces by launching its “Supporting Free Media in Afghanistan” project.
AJSC has been consistently working to address challenges facing the media and facilitate a safe environment for journalists.
