Afghan Journalists Safety Committee Holds Its Annual Coordination Meeting

The Annual Coordination Meeting of the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC), which was held over December 24 and 25 in Kabul, has concluded.


The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC), as well as central and provincial officials and staff of AJSC.


This annual coordination meeting of the AJSC’s central and provincial staff is held to assess the AJSC’s activities over the past year, plan for the year ahead, and review the challenges facing media work and the overall state of the media.


Jamil Weqar, head of AJSC, referred to the AJSC’s activities and stated that a large number of journalists have benefited from our services. He said that progress has been made in addressing challenges related to journalistic work and in creating a safer environment for journalists. He added that in the coming year, AJSC will strive to develop and plan its programs based on the needs and recommendations of the media community in order to effectively address journalists’ core problems.


In the meeting, Mawlawi Hayatullah Mahajer Farahi, deputy minister for publications at the MoIC, said in his speech that efforts are ongoing at the ministry and other relevant government institutions to address the challenges facing media outlets and journalists.


Similarly, Mawlawi Safiullah Raed, director of media monitoring at the MoIC, said the media plays an important role in society and that ensuring journalists’ safety and addressing their problems are among the responsibilities of this institution.


At the meeting, AJSC’s zone coordinators and provincial representatives shared their achievements and work-related challenges over the past year and work plans for the coming year.


AJSC has been continuously working to facilitate a safe environment for journalists and media workers across the country.
