Following the meeting of the Joint Media- Government Committee (JMGC), the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) held a coordination meeting with Kandahar Governor Mullah Shirin to address the challenges facing media work in the province.
Mawlawi Inamullah Samangani, head of information and culture directorate in Kandahar, and a number of media managers and journalists from the province also attended the meeting.
In the meeting, broadcasting challenges faced by local media outlets, improving access to information, ensuring journalists’ safety, and improved coordination between media and government entities were dissuced.
During the meeting, the Kandahar governor said that, from now on, government entites would provide information to journalists. He also urged journalists to work in accordance with Islamic values, national interests, and the applicable laws, emphasizing that the provincial administration would make efforts to resolve any problems they encounter.
Mawlawi Inamullah Samangani, head of information and culture directorate in Kandahar, appreciated the work of media, saying that journalists in the province have highlighted important developments that contribute to the sustainability of the society.
Attaullah Omar, AJSC’s coordinator for the southern zone, described the meeting as an important step toward implementing the decisions made during the previous JMGC meeting. He said that efforts would continue for the improvement of journalists’ access to information and to strengthen their professional capacity.
AJSC continues its efforts to address the challenges facing the media and to promote a safer working environment for journalists.
