Ghor, Afghanistan: Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) expresses its deep regret over the attack on the house of Gul Mohammad Adil, the father of the late journalist Besmillah Adil Aimaq, in which 3 members of Adil’s family were killed and 5 others were injured.
AJSC expresses its condolences and sympathy to Adil’s family and calls on the local government and security agencies to take immediate action to protect Adil’s family and to seriously investigate the case so that the perpetrators of the attack are being arrested and punished.
Unidentified armed men stormed the house of Gul Mohammad Adil, the father of the late Besmillah Adil, in the Tagha Timur area, in the western part of Firuzkuh, the capital of Ghor province, last night (Thursday, February 25), according to AJSC provincial coordinator in Ghor. In this attack, 3 members of Adil’s family were killed and 5 others were injured.
Local officials have confirmed the attack but yet to provide details about the perpetrators and motives of the attack.
Besmillah Adil Aimaq who was killed on the 1st of January 2021 in Ghor province worked as the Editor-in-Chief of Sada-e-Ghor Radio station. AJSC has called on the Afghan government to conduct a serious investigation into the killing of Martyr Adil and to bring to justice its perpetrators. Unfortunately, not only there is no information yet about the perpetrators of this case, but now the family of Martyr Adil has been attacked. The local government and security agencies must provide information about this incident as well as the killing of Mr. Bismillah Adil.
Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) is deeply concerned about the safety of journalists and their family members. The new wave of targeted killing of journalists which began in November 2020 has not only jeopardized the safety of all journalists but has left a tremendous impact on journalists and media outlets’ ability to effectively produce news and other forms of media content.
