Press Release of the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee in Connection with the Release of Two Journalists from Prison in Uruzgan and Helmand Provinces

Kabul, Afghanistan:


In the past two days, two active journalists from Uruzgan and Helmand provinces were released from the custody of the security forces of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA). The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee welcomes the release of these two journalists.


Khan Mohammad Seyal, the Broadcasting Manager of Sada-e Paiwaston Radio and Television in Uruzgan province, who was imprisoned by the security forces on May 11, 2022, was released yesterday, July 2, 2022, with the efforts of the provincial representative of AJSC.


Similarly, Zowan Takal, the reporter of Hila TV in Helmand province, who was imprisoned by the security forces of IEA on June 20, 2022, was released today, July 3, 2022.                  


It is mentionable that three other journalists who were arrested, namely Emaduddin Dawran on May 14 in Kabul, Mirza Hasani, the Managing Director of Radio Aftab in Daikundi on May 24 in Herat, and Jamaluddin Deldar, the Managing Director of Sada-e Gardiz Radio on May 28, 2022, are still in prison.


The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee asks the authorities of IEA to cooperate in the discharge of those journalists who are still in prison. The authorities are requested once again to activate the Media Violations Commission, which was recently re-established, as soon as possible.
