AJSC Press Release on Today’s Attack Against a Gathering of Journalists and MWs in Balkh Province

The Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) strongly condemns the attack on journalists, media workers, religious scholars, and other civilians.   


The gathering was planned to celebrate the work of a number of local journalists of Mazar-e Sharif city, the capital of Balkh province, at a cultural center today March 11.


Unfortunately, as a result of this attack, two employees of Tibyan Cultural Center were killed and 12 journalists were wounded.


AJSC wishes the wounded fast recovery and offers its deepest sympathies and condolences for the families and relatives of this heinous attack’s victims.


AJSC will bear all medical expenses of the wounded journalists and media workers in this attack.


AJSC calls on all responsible stakeholders to make every effort to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice.


AJSC asks the caretaker government to put in place all necessary measures for media and journalists’ safety, and implement the existing Procedure on Journalists Safety and Security.
